Miranda Blennerhassett

Miranda Blennerhassett was awarded the 2017 RCSI Art Award for her installation 'RHA' at the 187th RHA Annual Exhibition.

Her commission for RCSI is titled 'Windows to the World’. Blennerhassett’s practice explores the relationship between art and architecture as well as the cultural role of pattern and decoration. Using the fabric of the physical space at hand as the canvas for her installations, her work seeks to highlight details that are often overlooked but that impact the way we subconsciously react to our surroundings.

The windows looking out to York Street from 123 St Stephen's Green form the canvas for Blennerhassett's RCSI commission. 'Windows to the World' utilises a motif of open shutters to symbolise the spirit of accessibility, inclusion, and welcome at the College.

Applied directly to the glass in white vinyl, each of the four pairs of shutters incorporate a different latticework design from Arabic, Chinese, European, and Indian cultures, further celebrating the diversity of the student and staff community at RCSI.
